Description
Mushroom corals from the Discosoma genus are a classic staple in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their hardiness and steady growth. They are an excellent starting point for new hobbyists and offer a splash of simple, consistent colour for established tanks. This particular variety is a straightforward green, a colour that holds well under a wide range of aquarium lighting.
These soft corals have a simple, round, and relatively flat shape, much like their terrestrial namesakes. They lack a rigid skeleton, instead attaching to rockwork with a fleshy foot. Unlike many corals, they don’t have long, flowing tentacles for feeding, but their entire surface is capable of absorbing nutrients from the water. Their green colouration is typically uniform across the surface of the disc, creating a solid patch of colour as the coral colony expands.
Discosoma mushrooms are famously undemanding. They thrive in lower light conditions, with a PAR range of 50-150 being more than sufficient. In fact, too much light can cause them to bleach or detach. They prefer low to moderate, indirect water flow. Direct, strong flow can prevent them from fully expanding or even dislodge them from the rockwork. While they gain most of their energy through photosynthesis, they can absorb dissolved organic compounds and may benefit from occasional spot feeding with micro-foods, though this is not strictly necessary for their survival. Maintain stable water parameters, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, as you would for any reef aquarium. They are peaceful and can be placed almost anywhere in the lower to middle regions of the tank, as long as they are not being blasted by flow or intense light.
Given their ease of care and placid nature, green mushrooms are an excellent addition to almost any mixed reef. They will slowly multiply on their own, spreading across the rockwork to form a lush mat. This natural growth pattern can be used to fill in lower-lit areas of an aquascape where other, more demanding corals might not flourish. They are generally ignored by most fish and invertebrates.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
