Green Splatter Hammer Coral

Hammer corals, often identified as Euphyllia ancora or Euphyllia fimbriata, are a staple in many reef aquariums. Their elegant, flowing polyps create a dynamic display, making them a popular choice for both new and experienced hobbyists. This particular Green Splatter Hammer Coral, measuring approximately 11cm, showcases a vibrant green coloration with subtle splatters across its tips, enhancing its visual appeal. Many aquarists appreciate the gentle sway of these corals as a sign of good water flow and overall health in the system.

This specific specimen exhibits the classic hammer growth form, featuring polyps with blunt, hammer-shaped tips. The polyps extend gracefully from the skeletal structure, especially when illuminated. The green colour is consistent throughout the coral, with slight variations in hue and pattern that give it a "splatter" effect, adding character to its appearance. Its tentacles remain extended during the day, gently swaying with water movement, and retract at night or if disturbed.

Green Splatter Hammer Corals thrive under moderate lighting, ideally around 100-200 PAR, though they can adapt to a wider range. Moderate, indirect water flow is best, ensuring the polyps gently sway without being blasted directly. Place this coral on the sandbed or lower to mid-level rockwork, allowing ample space for its polyps to fully extend without stinging neighboring corals. For feeding, they can capture small zooplankton or receive spot feeding of coral-specific foods a few times a week, though they primarily rely on photosynthesis. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm for optimal health. Ensure good spacing from other corals as their sweeping tentacles can sting.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
