Description

Green Star Polyp is a popular and widespread soft coral in the aquarium hobby, valued for its hardiness and the unique sense of motion it brings to a reef tank. This coral grows as an encrusting mat, from which numerous vibrant polyps emerge. It is an excellent choice for newcomers to reef-keeping and seasoned hobbyists alike, known for its fast growth and forgiving nature when provided with stable conditions.

The appearance of Green Star Polyp is quite distinctive. The coral forms a rubbery purple or reddish mat that encrusts over rockwork, glass, and other surfaces. From this base, small, star-shaped polyps extend, each possessing eight tentacles. The polyps are typically a bright green, ranging from a grassy hue to an intense fluorescent neon color under actinic lighting. When the polyps are fully extended and swaying in the current, they create a mesmerizing, lawn-like effect.

Care for Green Star Polyp is straightforward as it is highly adaptable. It thrives under a wide range of lighting, but a moderate PAR level of 75-200 is a good target. It prefers moderate to strong, intermittent water flow, which helps keep the mat clean from detritus and encourages the polyps to open fully. Due to its aggressive growth rate, it is best placed on an isolated rock or on the back pane of the aquarium to prevent it from overtaking other corals. It is largely photosynthetic but will accept broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods. Maintain standard reef parameters with calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. While not possessing stinging tentacles, it will encrust and smother any stationary corals in its path, so provide ample space.

For anyone looking to add a hardy, fast-growing coral that provides vibrant color and gentle movement, the Green Star Polyp is a classic and dependable option. Its resilience makes it an enjoyable and rewarding species for almost any mixed reef aquarium.

Please note: This is not a WYSIWYG item. You will receive a coral frag of the same species and similar coloration/quality to what is photographed, but the exact specimen may vary. Each piece is unique and hand-selected for health and color.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
