Green Star Polyps

Green Star Polyps are one of the most recognisable soft corals in the reef aquarium hobby, often recommended to newcomers for their resilience. This particular variety is a classic bright green, a colour that is consistent under a wide range of aquarium lighting.

Each polyp has a distinct star shape, emerging from a rubbery purple mat that encrusts surfaces. The polyps are a vibrant fluorescent green and will sway together in the current, creating a compelling sense of movement in the tank. This growth habit allows it to cover bare rockwork or back walls with a uniform, lawn-like carpet.

Care for Green Star Polyps is straightforward. They are not demanding about lighting and will grow well in a wide range of PAR, from 50 to 250. They prefer moderate to strong water flow, which helps keep the mat clean and encourages the polyps to extend fully. Be mindful of their growth rate; it's best to place them on an isolated rock or the back glass to prevent them from overgrowing neighbouring corals. While photosynthetic, they can benefit from occasional broad-spectrum soft coral food. Maintain standard reef parameters with calcium at 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300-1400.

Their fast growth and hardiness make Green Star Polyps an excellent choice for adding colour and motion to a new or established reef tank. They are peaceful, but their encrusting nature means giving them space is the best strategy for long-term harmony in a mixed reef.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
