Description
Description
The Hammer Coral (Euphyllia paraancora) is a cornerstone large polyp stony coral in the marine hobby, appreciated for its gentle motion and dependable hardiness. It forms branching skeleton clusters topped with fleshy polyps that sway rhythmically with the water current. This particular piece measures approximately 6cm across, making it an ideal size to settle into an established reef or an expanding LPS garden.
Each polyp displays distinctive anchor- or hammer-shaped tips that extend outward during daylight hours. While the branches themselves remain hidden under full expansion, the fleshy mantle creates a full, pillow-like canopy across the skeleton. Under balanced aquarium lighting, the polyps expand broadly to catch light, retracting slightly at night into their stony bases.
Care for the Hammer Coral requires moderate, indirect lighting with PAR levels sitting comfortably between 75 and 150. Place it in the lower to middle zones of the tank, avoiding harsh, direct water flow which can tear polyp tissue against the sharp skeletal septa; a gentle, sweeping current is ideal. Maintain standard reef chemistry with calcium at 400 to 450 ppm, alkalinity between 8 and 9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300 to 1350 ppm. Like all euphylliids, it possesses sweeper tentacles capable of stinging neighbouring corals, so allow several centimetres of clearance from non-Euphyllia species, and acclimate the colony slowly to both water parameters and light intensity.
This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.
Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
