Highlighter Orange Leptoseris Fragment

Leptoseris is a popular and distinctive encrusting coral, well-regarded for its growth rate and tolerance of lower light conditions. Often called a wrinkle coral, it forms thin plates that closely follow the contours of the rockwork. This particular variety has a striking deep orange colouration that stands out in a mixed reef tank.

In a home aquarium, Leptoseris grows as a smooth, almost molten-looking sheet over the rocks. It has a subtle texture of fine ridges and a slightly glossy surface. The actual polyps are tiny and usually only visible at night, giving the coral a clean, uniform appearance during the day. Its edges will glow intensely under actinic lighting, which is how it earned its common name.

For care, place Orange Leptoseris in the lower to middle regions of the tank where it receives low to moderate light, somewhere in the 75 to 150 PAR range. It prefers moderate, indirect water flow; too much direct flow can inhibit its growth. While it gets most of its nutrition from its zooxanthellae, it can benefit from occasional feedings of fine coral foods. Maintain stable water parameters, including calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm. Leptoseris is not aggressive, but it will encrust over its neighbours, so give it room to grow without encroaching on other corals.

This coral is a great choice for adding a splash of solid colour to the lower, less intensely lit areas of a reef. Its unique encrusting nature means it can cover bare rockwork or even the tank bottom, creating a living carpet of colour. As it grows, it will conform to any shape, adding a very natural and established look to the aquascape.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
