Lime Green Montipora

Montipora corals are a favorite among reef hobbyists, offering a wide array of colors and growth forms. This Lime Green Montipora is an excellent example of the genus, known for being one of the more accessible small polyp stony (SPS) corals. It provides a rewarding experience for aquarists looking to venture into keeping more demanding species, without the unforgiving nature of some other SPS types.

This species typically displays a vibrant lime green to chartreuse coloration across its entire surface. It has an encrusting growth habit that will cover rockwork, eventually developing into thin, overlapping plates or whorls as the colony matures. The polyps are very small and may be the same green as the coral's body or a slightly contrasting color, giving the surface a finely textured appearance.

Successful husbandry of this Montipora requires attention to stable water parameters. It thrives under moderate to high lighting conditions, ideally in a PAR range of 200-350, which helps maintain its bright green coloration. Water flow should be moderate to strong and preferably indirect or chaotic to keep detritus from settling on its surface and to ensure nutrients are delivered across the colony. Ideal placement is on the rockwork in the middle to upper third of the aquarium, with ample space to grow and plate out. While largely photosynthetic, it benefits from broadcast feeding with fine particulate foods like phytoplankton or specialized SPS coral diets. Maintain calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. This coral is not aggressive, but you should leave several inches between it and other corals to prevent it from encrusting over or shading them. Proper drip acclimation is highly recommended to prevent shock.

For the reefer looking to add a splash of intense color and an interesting growth structure to their tank, the Lime Green Montipora is a superb choice. It's a classic SPS coral that grows relatively quickly under good conditions, offering a visible sign of a healthy and maturing reef system.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
