Description
Lobophyllia corals, commonly known as Lobos or brain corals, are a classic favourite in the marine aquarium hobby. Renowned for their meaty polyps and distinctive winding skeletal walls, they bring bold texture and striking presence to a mixed reef system. This piece measures approximately 6cm across, making it an ideal candidate to establish on the lower rockwork or substrate.
The coral features thick, fleshy tissue that inflates significantly during the day to catch available light. At night, or when food scents are introduced into the water column, it extends short feeder tentacles from the margins of its central mouths. Its coloration presents rich, contrasting tones across the mantle and recessed valleys, showing off the natural depth and variety typical of healthy Lobo specimens.
Care is straightforward once settled into a mature aquarium. Position this coral in the lower section of the tank or directly on the sandbed under moderate lighting, aiming for roughly 75 to 150 PAR. Water movement should be low to moderate and indirect; excessive flow can push the fleshy tissue against its sharp internal skeleton and cause tears. Target feed with finely chopped meaty foods or LPS pellets once or twice a week to support vitality and growth. Maintain stable reef parameters with calcium around 420 to 440 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 9 dKH, and magnesium near 1300 to 1350 ppm. Allow several centimetres of clearance between this piece and neighbouring corals, as sweeper tentacles can be deployed after dark. Float and drip acclimate thoroughly, taking time to light acclimate the specimen over its first week.
This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.
Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
