Description
Description
Favia coral is a familiar large polyp stony coral that has been a staple in the reef aquarium hobby for many years. These corals are known for their hardiness and characteristic pattern of individual, round corallites across the colony's surface, making them an excellent choice for both new and experienced reef keepers.
In a home reef, a Favia coral typically grows in an encrusting or submassive boulder shape, slowly covering the rockwork it's placed on. Each polyp lives in its own distinct skeletal cup, often with a raised rim. Colouration is variable and can range from greens and browns to creams, sometimes with the polyp's centre, or oral disc, displaying a colour that contrasts with the surrounding tissue. At night, they may extend short but potent sweeper tentacles.
Successful care for Favia coral involves providing moderate lighting, with a PAR value between 100 and 200, and moderate water flow to keep the surface clear of detritus. Placement in the lower to middle regions of the aquarium is ideal. While photosynthetic, they benefit greatly from direct feeding once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized coral pellets. Favia can be aggressive, so it's important to give them several inches of space to avoid their sweeper tentacles from damaging other corals. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity between 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. Standard drip acclimation is recommended.
This is a rewarding LPS coral that adds texture and colour to any well-maintained reef system. The purchase of this item is for the exact specimen pictured.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
