Description

The Hammer Coral, a member of the Fimbriaphyllia genus, is a long-standing favorite in the reef aquarium hobby. Known for its distinctive polyp shape and gentle, flowing movement, it adds a unique sense of motion to any reef tank. This coral is appreciated by both new and experienced hobbyists for its visual appeal and manageable care requirements, making it a classic choice for a living centerpiece. Its rhythmic swaying in the water current provides a captivating display.

The Hammer Coral develops a calcified stony skeleton, which can be either a branching wall or a branching type. During the day, it extends long, fleshy polyps tipped with T-shaped, anchor-like structures that resemble small hammers. This specimen displays a rich green coloration on its tentacles. The constant, gentle movement of these polyps in the current is one of the main draws for this particular species, creating a dynamic focal point in a well-maintained aquarium.

For proper care, Hammer Corals thrive under moderate lighting conditions, ideally in a PAR range of 75 to 150. They prefer low to moderate, indirect water flow; strong, direct currents can cause the polyps to retract and may lead to tissue damage. Ideal placement is in the lower to middle sections of the tank, secured to rockwork with sufficient space around it. While photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional target feeding of mysis shrimp or other small, meaty foods once or twice a week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Be aware that Hammer Corals possess long sweeper tentacles that can sting neighboring corals, so provide at least 6-8 inches of space between them and other sessile invertebrates. Acclimate slowly using a drip method and introduce to light gradually.

The unique visual texture and graceful motion of the Hammer Coral make it a worthwhile addition to a mixed reef environment. It provides a different kind of aesthetic compared to static or small-polyped corals, contributing to a more diverse and active underwater landscape. For hobbyists looking for a coral with both personality and presence, the Hammer Coral is an excellent selection.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
