Description

Hammer corals from the Fimbriaphyllia genus are a staple in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their swaying polyps and distinct shapes. They bring a unique sense of movement to the reef scape. This particular specimen exhibits a deep purple colouration, adding a metallic sheen under aquarium lighting.

This variety features the classic wall-type growth form, creating a solid base that gives rise to its numerous polyps. Each polyp is topped with a t-shaped or hammer-like tip, which gives the coral its common name. In a gentle current, these purple-tipped tentacles will extend and sway, creating a dynamic display. They are active during both the day and night, though they may retract slightly after the lights go out.

For best results, place your Metallic Purple Hammer Coral in a location with low to moderate water flow and moderate lighting, typically in the 75 to 150 PAR range. Direct, high flow can damage the delicate polyps, so indirect flow is preferred. While it is photosynthetic, it will benefit from occasional feedings of small, meaty foods like mysis or enriched brine shrimp. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity between 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm. It's important to give this coral ample space, as it can extend sweeper tentacles capable of stinging neighbouring corals.

A well-placed hammer coral can become a centrepiece, adding colour and motion that contrasts well with static SPS or soft corals. It is generally compatible with other members of its genus, like frogspawns and torch corals, but always observe any new additions carefully and provide enough space for everything to grow without conflict.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
