Description
Mushroom corals, belonging to the order Corallimorpharia, are enduring staples of the marine aquarium hobby. Known for their hardiness and ability to thrive across a wide range of tank conditions, they represent an ideal addition for both newer hobbyists and seasoned reefers seeking reliable low-lying ground cover. This particular specimen is offered on a small plug or rock and features approximately 3+ Polyps.
In terms of growth form, these corals feature broad, fleshy discs that expand during the day to capture light and retract slightly into compact discs under darkness or when disturbed. They lack a rigid stony skeleton, relying instead on a soft, supple tissue structure that gently ripples with indirect water movement. Over time, settled polyps reproduce by pedal laceration or longitudinal fission, slowly establishing small colonies across the surrounding rockwork.
Care is straightforward, making them one of the most forgiving soft corals available. They do best under low to moderate lighting, ideally between 50 and 100 PAR, paired with gentle, indirect water flow that allows their discs to stay fully expanded without folding inward or detaching. Placement on the sandbed or along the lower rockwork is ideal. While they gain most of their energy via photosynthetic zooxanthellae, they will readily accept occasional fine particulate feeds or microplankton. Standard reef parameters suit them well, with calcium maintained between 400 and 450 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 9 dKH, and magnesium around 1250 to 1350 ppm. Give them a few centimetres of space from neighbouring corals, and acclimate them gradually to light and water conditions upon arrival.
This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.
Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
