Description

Favia corals are a classic in the reef aquarium hobby, known for their distinctive brain-like appearance and hardy nature. These Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals are appreciated for their steady growth and the interesting texture they bring to a reef scape. Their general hardiness makes them suitable for aquarists who have some experience maintaining stable water parameters.

This species of Favia typically presents as an encrusting or submassive colony with clearly defined, circular corallites. It is known for its bright green coloration, which can cover the entire surface of the coral. The oral discs, or "eyes," at the center of each polyp may sometimes display a contrasting color, adding to its visual appeal. Over time, a Favia frag will encrust over the rockwork, following its contours.

For best results, Favia corals should be placed in the lower to middle third of the aquarium, receiving low to moderate lighting in the 75-150 PAR range. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow which is strong enough to prevent detritus from settling on their surface but not so strong that it causes the polyps to remain retracted. While photosynthetic, Favia benefits greatly from direct feeding. Target feed individual polyps once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized LPS pellets. Maintain standard reef parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. Be aware that Favia corals are aggressive; they can extend long sweeper tentacles at night, so provide at least 3-4 inches of space between them and any neighboring corals. A slow drip acclimation is the best method for introducing this coral to your system.

A Favia coral is a great choice for adding a splash of permanent color and a unique, bumpy texture to the rockwork in a mixed reef tank. Their straightforward care and interesting appearance make them a rewarding species for the dedicated hobbyist to watch grow.

Please note: This is not a WYSIWYG item. You will receive a coral frag of the same species and similar coloration/quality to what is photographed, but the exact specimen may vary. Each piece is unique and hand-selected for health and color.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
