Description
Lobophyllia are a classic large polyp stony (LPS) coral that have been popular in the reef aquarium hobby for many years. Known for their large, fleshy polyps and wide range of colors, these corals are an appealing choice for both new and experienced hobbyists looking for a showpiece coral that is both hardy and interesting to observe.
This species, often simply called a "Lobo," typically grows in a pattern of individual, round polyps or in interconnected, wall-like formations. When healthy and fully expanded, the tissue is puffy and conceals the stony skeleton underneath. This particular variety exhibits a vibrant, uniform green coloration. At night or when hungry, Lobophyllia will extend surprisingly long feeder tentacles to capture food from the water column.
For best care, Lobophyllia should be placed on the sandbed or on a low-lying rock structure. They prefer low to moderate water flow, just enough to keep their surface clean without causing the tissue to retract. Lighting should also be in the low to moderate range, approximately 75-150 PAR. While photosynthetic, they benefit significantly from direct feeding. Offer meaty foods like mysis shrimp or other finely chopped seafood once or twice a week. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. Lobophyllia are aggressive and can produce long sweeper tentacles, so be sure to provide several inches of space between them and any neighboring corals. Acclimation should be performed slowly to avoid shock.
With its bright coloration and impressive polyp size, the Lobophyllia makes for an excellent addition to many reef tanks. It serves well as a focal point or "centerpiece" coral for the lower areas of the aquascape, provided its space and feeding requirements are met.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
