Description
Lobophyllia have been a reef aquarium staple for decades, and for good reason. Often called a lobo or brain coral, this large polyp stony (LPS) coral is known for its large, fleshy polyps. This particular specimen presents a solid neon green colouration that holds up well under a range of lighting schedules.
In a home reef, a Lobophyllia will show its structure of fused, round corallites covered by puffy tissue. The surface has a texture that can range from smooth to bumpy, and the polyps can inflate quite a bit in lower flow, giving the colony a full, pillowy appearance. At night, it may extend short sweeper tentacles from its perimeter, a typical feeding and defense response.
For best results, place your Lobophyllia on the sandbed or a low, flat rocky outcrop, away from sharp edges. It prefers moderate light levels, somewhere in the 75 to 150 PAR range, and will lose colour if exposed to overly intense lighting. Keep water movement low to moderate and indirect, enough to prevent detritus from settling but not so strong that the tissue is constantly blasted. While photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty foods. Like all LPS, it builds its skeleton from carbonate and calcium, so be sure to maintain stable alkalinity (8-9 dKH), calcium (420-440 ppm), and magnesium (1300-1400 ppm). Give it a few inches of space from its neighbours to account for its sweeper tentacles.
This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
