Description
The hammer coral, Fimbriaphyllia ancora, is a staple large polyp stony coral that has long been a favourite in the reef hobby. Known for its distinct anchor-shaped polyp tips and graceful motion in the water column, this specimen displays a rich orange coloration that brings warm, vibrant contrast to any aquascape. This piece measures approximately 7cm and provides an eye-catching focal point as its polyps expand throughout the day.
Like other euphylliids, the orange hammer relies on a stony skeletal base from which fleshy tentacles extend. Under proper lighting, the tentacles expand fully, swaying gently with the current to capture both light and suspended nutrients. The orange pigmentation extends across the tips, creating a bright display under daylight spectrums that glows intensely under actinic blue lighting.
In the home aquarium, this coral thrives under moderate lighting conditions with PAR levels between 80 and 150. Place it in the lower to middle section of the tank where it receives gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. Excessive direct flow can tear its delicate tissue against the skeleton, while too little will prevent full polyp extension. Maintain standard reef parameters with calcium at 420 to 450 ppm, alkalinity between 8 and 10 dKH, and magnesium around 1300 to 1350 ppm. Provide adequate spacing of at least 10cm from non-euphylliid neighbours, as its sweeper tentacles can sting nearby corals. Acclimate slowly using a drip method to help the coral adjust to your water parameters.
This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.
Please note that colours can look slightly different in person than in photos, depending on your lighting and screen, and the size given is an approximate guide measured at the time of listing.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
