Description
Description
Leptastrea is a classic encrusting LPS coral, valued in the hobby for its hardiness and textured appearance. Often called a wrinkle coral, it forms a bumpy, plate-like colony over the rockwork, with this variety showing a distinct orange colour.
This coral grows by encrusting the surface it is placed on, methodically covering the rock with its tightly-packed, individual polyps. Under aquarium lighting, the coralites and the surrounding tissue present a deep orange hue. Its polyps are quite small and remain close to the skeleton, giving the whole colony a neat, uniform surface.
In a home reef, Leptastrea care is straightforward. It thrives in low to moderate lighting conditions, typically in the 75 to 150 PAR range, and should be placed in the lower to middle regions of the tank. Provide moderate, indirect water flow to keep its surface clean. While primarily photosynthetic, it benefits from occasional target feeding with small foods like prepared LPS pellets. It is not an aggressive coral and lacks sweeper tentacles, but you should give it space to encrust without encroaching on slower-growing neighbours. Maintain stable water chemistry with calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.
The steady growth habit and simple requirements of Leptastrea make it a great candidate for adding a field of lasting colour to a well-maintained system. This is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) item, so the coral pictured is the exact one you will receive.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
