Pink Flowerpot Coral

The Pink Flowerpot Coral, or Goniopora, is a captivating LPS coral known for its long, flowing polyps. These corals bring a dynamic presence to many reef aquariums, swaying gently with the water flow. This particular specimen is a lovely pink, adding a soft pop of colour. This piece measures approximately Frag. While some Goniopora can be challenging, many hobbyists find success with careful attention to their needs. Overall, this is a popular choice for reef keepers looking for a coral with good movement.

This coral exhibits numerous small, individual polyps that extend from a hard, stony base. The polyps are tubular and display a vibrant pink colouration, often with contrasting tips or mouths. When fully extended, they create a dense, flower-like appearance, hence the common name. The polyps retract into the skeleton if disturbed, but will re-emerge given a stable environment. Their constant motion adds life and texture to the reef.

For successful care, Pink Flowerpot Corals need moderate lighting, ideally around 100-200 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow to ensure food delivery and prevent detritus accumulation without causing polyps to remain retracted. Placement is best on the sand bed or lower rockwork. Feeding is crucial; target feed with fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton or zooplankton several times a week, especially in their acclimation phase. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-9 dKH, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Provide ample space from other corals as their long polyps can sting neighbours. Acclimation should be slow, using a drip method over several hours, and gradually introduce them to full light.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
