Description

Psammocora is an intriguing encrusting coral that occupies a unique niche in the reef hobby, often appreciated by keepers looking for fine, velvety texture and reliable hardiness. While scientifically a small-polyp stony coral, it is classified here under soft coral and behaves with exceptional adaptability across a range of captive systems. Offered as a frag, this specimen provides a great starting point for establishing a spreading base over your rockwork.

The coral features a tight, undulating growth form covered in minute polyps that give the surface a distinct, fuzzy appearance when fully expanded. Its subtle, earthy tones fit naturally alongside brighter species, providing visual contrast and intricate surface detail rather than overpowering the aquascape. Under consistent conditions, it steadily plates and encrusts over contiguous substrate, forming solid, contoured colonies.

Care is straightforward, making it suitable for both mixed reefs and dedicated nano tanks. It thrives under low to moderate lighting, generally between 100 and 175 PAR, paired with moderate, indirect water movement to keep the fine polyps clear of detritus. Lower to mid-level rock placement works best to allow room for natural spread. While it derives most of its energy from photosynthesis, occasional target feeding with fine particulate foods will support healthy growth rates. Maintain standard reef parameters, keeping calcium around 400 to 440 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 9 dKH, and magnesium between 1250 and 1350 ppm. It possesses short sweeper tentacles and mild temperament, though giving it a few centimetres of clearance from aggressive neighbours is recommended. Acclimate carefully using a slow drip method and introduce it to lower light before moving it to its final position.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
