Description

The Elegance Coral, Catalaphyllia jardinei, is a distinct and graceful large polyp stony coral known for the unique, flowing motion of its long tentacles. It has been a classic showpiece coral in the hobby for many years due to its impressive size and hypnotic movement, creating a dynamic focal point in any reef aquarium. Its combination of a hard skeleton and large, fleshy polyp tissue makes it a fascinating species for many marine aquarists.

An Elegance Coral is characterized by its large, vibrant oral disc and the numerous long tentacles that extend from it. The main body of the coral often displays a rich green or tan color, while the tentacle tips are frequently a contrasting color, such as pink, purple, or white. The entire coral polyp lives within a cone or wall-shaped skeleton and will expand and retract based on lighting conditions and water flow, with its tentacles gently swaying in the current.

Proper care is crucial for the long-term health of an Elegance Coral. It prefers low to moderate lighting, with a PAR range between 75 and 150, as intense light can cause tissue damage. Water flow should be low and indirect, providing just enough movement to keep the tentacles waving gently without being battered. The ideal placement is on the sandbed, which provides a soft base and gives the coral ample room to expand its tentacles without touching rocks or other corals. While photosynthetic, it benefits from weekly target feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS foods. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium around 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1250-1350 ppm. This species possesses long and potent sweeper tentacles, so it requires at least six inches of space from its neighbors to prevent stinging them. Careful and slow acclimation is recommended.

The Elegance Coral is a rewarding species for the hobbyist who can provide the right environment. Its gentle, rhythmic movement brings a sense of calm and life to the reef, making it a compelling centerpiece that is appreciated for its unique form and motion.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
