Description
This Purple Favites Brain coral is an eye-catching addition to any reef aquarium. Its vibrant purple coloration with contrasting blue centers creates a stunning visual appeal, and its classic brain-like growth pattern adds interesting texture to your aquascape. Favites are relatively hardy LPS corals, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced reefers. This particular specimen is guaranteed to be a focal point in your tank.
Favites corals thrive under moderate PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) levels, typically between 100-200. Avoid placing them in areas of extremely high light, which can cause bleaching. Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to keep the coral clean and deliver nutrients without irritating its delicate polyps. Placement on a stable rock structure in the middle to lower regions of the tank, where it won't be overshadowed by faster-growing corals, is recommended. Ensure there is ample space around the coral as it can extend sweeper tentacles at night.
While Favites corals are photosynthetic and derive most of their energy from their symbiotic zooxanthellae, they will benefit from supplemental feeding. Offer small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, cyclopods, or specialized coral foods a few times a week, especially in the evening when their feeding tentacles are extended. Maintain stable water parameters: Temperature 74-78°F, Salinity 1.024-1.026, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Calcium 400-450 ppm, and Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Regular water changes are crucial for maintaining water quality.
Favites corals can be aggressive towards neighboring corals due to their sweeper tentacles. Ensure adequate spacing between the Favites and other corals to prevent stinging and tissue damage. Carefully acclimate the coral to your aquarium using a drip acclimation method over at least 30-60 minutes to minimize stress. Monitor the coral closely during the first few days for any signs of stress or irritation.
Overall, the Purple Favites Brain is a relatively easy-to-care-for and rewarding coral that offers striking coloration and an intriguing growth habit. With proper placement, lighting, flow, and occasional feeding, this vibrant LPS coral will flourish and enhance the beauty of your reef environment for years to come.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
