Hammer corals prefer moderate PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) levels, typically between 75-150 PAR. While they can tolerate a wide range, consistent lighting is key for optimal health and color. Moderate water flow is also important; aim for enough flow to gently sway the polyps without causing them to retract fully or be blasted by direct current. Ideal placement is on a sturdy rock structure in the middle to lower regions of the aquarium, ensuring it has ample space to expand without touching neighboring corals, as they can be aggressive.

Hammer corals are primarily photosynthetic, deriving most of their energy from the symbiotic zooxanthellae within their tissues. However, they will readily accept supplemental feedings of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized coral foods a few times a week. Maintaining stable water parameters is crucial: temperature 74-78°F, salinity 1.025-1.026, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, calcium 400-450 ppm, and magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. Regular water changes and a good quality salt mix will help maintain these parameters.

When introducing your new Hammer Coral, a drip acclimation process over an hour or two is recommended to minimize stress. Place it in an area where it receives appropriate light and flow, ensuring it has enough clearance from other corals. Hammer corals possess potent stinging swept tentacles that can harm nearby corals, so maintain at least 4-6 inches of space between them and other inhabitants. Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
