Description
Acropora millepora is a popular species among SPS enthusiasts, appreciated for the constant motion its polyps provide. Unlike many other Acropora species that may have limited polyp extension, millepora are known for their consistently fuzzy or hairy appearance, which adds a unique texture and sense of activity to a reef aquarium. Their branching growth form can create intricate structures within the aquascape as the colony matures.
This species typically forms branching colonies with relatively thick, stout branches. The defining feature is its dense covering of elongated polyps, which are almost always visible during both day and night. Wild color variations are numerous, with this particular type exhibiting a coloration with purple bases and branches that transition to bright golden or yellowish polyps. This contrast gives the coral a very noticeable appearance under aquarium lighting.
Acrocopora millepora requires stable water conditions typical for SPS corals. For lighting, a PAR range of 250-450 is recommended, so placement in the upper third of the tank is ideal. It thrives in high, turbulent water flow, which helps keep its polyps clean and delivers nutrients. Target feeding is not necessary, but the coral will benefit from broadcast feeding of small particle foods like amino acids or plankton a few times a week. Maintain calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity between 8-12 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1450 ppm. It is not an aggressive coral but should be given several inches of space to grow and to prevent it from being stung by neighboring corals. Proper drip acclimation is essential, and the coral should be slowly introduced to high light to prevent bleaching.
For the aquarist keeping a high-energy SPS system, Acropora millepora is a worthwhile addition. Its active polyp display, fast growth in established systems, and vibrant coloration make it a centerpiece species that adds both color and texture. It serves as a good indicator of tank stability, as its polyp extension is a reliable sign of good water quality.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
