Description
Description
The Devil's Hand Leather Coral, a member of the Lobophytum genus, is a well-known and enduringly popular soft coral. Its distinct shape and hardy nature make it a common sight in home reef aquariums. This particular variety displays a wonderful green colouration that provides a solid, textured presence in the rockwork.
The coral grows from a thick stalk, branching out into distinctive, finger-like lobes that give the coral its name. When its long, feathery polyps are fully extended, the Devil's Hand has a soft, almost furry texture, swaying gently in the current. The polyps may retract periodically or at night, revealing more of the underlying green skin and changing the coral's entire appearance.
Care for the Green Devil's Hand is straightforward in a stable reef environment. It prefers lower to mid-tank placement with moderate lighting, in the range of 100-200 PAR. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep the surface clear of detritus but not so strong that it prevents the polyps from extending. While it gets most of its nutrition from light, it appreciates occasional feedings with food designed for filter-feeding soft corals. Like all leather corals, it can release terpenes, so give it a good amount of space to avoid irritating nearby LPS and SPS corals.
Its steady growth and unique form make the Devil's Hand an excellent choice for adding structure and movement to the reef. Just be sure to place it in a spot where it will have room to grow and spread over time without shading or chemically impacting its neighbours. It tends to be left alone by most fish, making it a reliable addition to a community reef tank.
This is not a WYSIWYG listing; you'll receive a specimen of the same species with similar size and colouration to the one pictured, hand-picked for health and colour.
Specimens are either green or purple and will be picked at random. If you have a preference in colour please add this in the order notes, but we cannot guarantee you'll receive your preferred colour.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
