Description
Description
This Purple Hammer Coral showcases stunning, flowing polyps with vibrant purple and pink hues, creating a mesmerizing display within any reef aquarium. Its fleshy tentacles possess a rounded, hammer-like tip, undulating gently in the current and adding dynamic movement to your aquascape. This particular specimen is healthy and fully acclimated, ready to thrive in your reef system.
Hammer corals prefer moderate PAR levels, typically ranging from 75-150. Too much light can cause retraction and bleaching, while too little can lead to fading colors and poor growth. Moderate, indirect flow is ideal, allowing the polyps to extend fully and gently sway without being blasted directly. Placement on the sandbed or lower to mid-rock work is generally recommended, ensuring adequate space to prevent stinging other corals.
While primarily photosynthetic, deriving most of its energy from the symbiotic zooxanthellae within its tissues, this hammer coral will also benefit from occasional spot feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or other coral-specific target foods. Maintain stable water parameters: temperature 75-78°F, salinity 1.024-1.026, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, calcium 400-450 ppm, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. Regular water changes and a good filtration system will help maintain these parameters.
Hammer corals are considered semi-aggressive due to their sweeper tentacles that can extend several inches at night. Ensure adequate spacing from other corals to prevent chemical warfare and stinging. Acclimation should be done slowly using a drip acclimation method over at least 30-60 minutes to minimize stress. Observe the coral for several days after introduction for signs of stress or improper placement.
Adding a Purple Hammer Coral to your reef tank is an excellent way to introduce striking color and graceful movement. Its relatively moderate care requirements make it suitable for both intermediate and experienced reef keepers. Its beauty and resilience will make it a treasured centerpiece in your aquatic display for years to come.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
