Description

Plating Montipora are a cornerstone of the SPS world, found in reef aquariums of all sizes. This particular Red Montipora is a classic example of the species, known for its distinctive growth form and steady temperament. It offers a way to add the unique beauty of small polyp stony corals to a tank without some of the demands of the more sensitive varieties.

Under the right conditions, this coral grows into thin, overlapping plates that can create beautiful shelves and layered structures in an aquascape. The surface has a fine, almost velvety texture from its tiny polyps. The colour is a solid, deep red across the surface of the coral, providing a strong patch of colour that contrasts well with green, blue, and purple corals.

For best results, provide high lighting, in the 250 to 450 PAR range, along with moderate to high water flow. Good, randomised flow is important to keep detritus from settling on its broad surface. Placement in the middle to upper regions of the rockwork is ideal, ensuring it has open space to expand. While largely photosynthetic, it will benefit from occasional feeding with fine particle foods designed for SPS corals. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium between 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300-1400 ppm. It's a peaceful coral, but its plating growth can easily shade out anything placed below it, so give it plenty of room.

In a home reef, Red Montipora stands out for its structural growth as much as its colour. It can grow relatively quickly once established, making it a satisfying addition for hobbyists who enjoy watching their reef mature and evolve. Its presence adds a sense of depth and complexity to the rockwork that few other corals can replicate.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
