Purple & Red Scolymia

Scolymia, often called Scoly, are highly sought-after large polyp stony corals in the reef aquarium hobby. Their striking colours and relatively easy care make them a popular choice for many aquarists. This piece measures approximately 4cm. They are cherished for their vibrant patterns and the elegant, fleshy appearance of their polyps. This particular specimen displays a beautiful red hue. These corals typically grow in a solitary, disc-shaped form, though they can sometimes be encrusting. Their single, large polyp has a fleshy mantle that extends over their calcareous skeleton, giving them a full, rounded appearance. This red coloration is a highlight, providing a strong focal point in any display. Scolymia thrive under moderate lighting, ideally between 75-150 PAR, and prefer moderate, indirect water flow to keep their tissue clean without causing irritation. They should be placed on the sand bed or securely in the lower to mid-rockwork. While they host zooxanthellae for most of their nutritional needs, occasional target feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods will encourage faster growth and better health. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. They are generally peaceful but should be given ample space as they can sting neighbouring corals with their sweeper tentacles, especially at night. When introducing a new Scolymia, a slow, gradual acclimation to tank lighting and water parameters is crucial. Its distinct red colour makes this Scolymia a wonderful addition to a mixed reef, providing a splash of vibrant colour against more subdued tones.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
