Description
Acanthastrea lordhowensis, commonly known as the Acan Lord, is a long-standing favourite in the reef aquarium hobby. These corals are appreciated for their large, fleshy polyps and manageable care requirements. This particular specimen displays a vibrant multicolour pattern, earning it the name Rainbow Acan Lord, showcasing the diverse and vivid palette this species is known for.
In a home reef, Acan Lords form an encrusting or plating colony of distinct, round polyps. This rainbow variant presents a blend of colours across the polyps, often with contrasting rings and mouths that create a captivating mosaic effect. The polyps will inflate with water, giving the colony a full, pillowy appearance, and will extend their short feeding tentacles at night or when they sense food in the water.
For best results, place Acan Lords on the sandbed or on lower rockwork, away from intense direct light. A PAR range of 50-150 is sufficient. They prefer low to moderate water flow, just enough to keep the polyps free of detritus without causing them to remain retracted. While photosynthetic, they benefit greatly from target feeding once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or dedicated LPS pellets. Maintain stable water parameters, including calcium between 400-450 ppm and alkalinity between 8-12 dKH. Although not overly aggressive, they can extend short sweeper tentacles, so leave a few inches of space between them and their neighbours.
Due to their placement in lower light and flow areas of the aquarium, Acan Lords are an excellent choice for adding colour to parts of the reef that might otherwise be overlooked. They are generally peaceful when given adequate space and can coexist well in a mixed reef environment with other species that share similar care requirements. Their steady growth and brilliant colouration make them a rewarding species to keep.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
