Description

The Acan Lord, Acanthastrea lordhowensis, is a long-standing favourite in the reef aquarium hobby. Known for its large, fleshy polyps and incredible colour diversity, it forms low-growing colonies that can add texture and dimension to the rockwork. Specimens with "rainbow" colouration are particularly striking, showcasing a blend of several distinct colours across the colony.

In a home reef, Acan Lords have an encrusting growth pattern, slowly covering the surface they are placed on. The individual polyps are circular and can inflate and deflate noticeably depending on the time of day and flow conditions. Rainbow morphs display a tapestry of colours, often with several hues appearing within a single polyp or with adjacent polyps showing dramatic contrast. At night, you may see short feeder tentacles emerge from the center of each polyp, especially when food is in the water.

These corals prefer low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 50 to 150 PAR range, as they can lose colour if the light is too intense. Place them on the sandbed or in the lower to middle sections of the aquarium where they also receive gentle, indirect water flow. While not overly aggressive, they should be given a few inches of space from their neighbours to allow for growth and to prevent direct contact. Acan Lords benefit from target feeding once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or LPS pellets. For long-term health, maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity between 8-9 dKH, and magnesium at 1300-1400 ppm.

Due to their straightforward care and compact size, Acan Lords are an excellent choice for adding a concentrated patch of colour to any mixed reef. They are a good fit for mature tanks with stable conditions and peaceful tank mates. A small colony can grow into an impressive piece over time without interfering with other corals.

This is not a WYSIWYG listing; you'll receive a specimen of the same species with similar size and colouration to the one pictured, hand-picked for health and colour.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
