Rainbow Lobophyllia

Lobophyllia, often called a lobed brain coral, is a popular and striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its vibrant colours and relatively straightforward care requirements. This particular specimen showcases a dazzling array of rainbow hues, making it a spectacular centrepiece in any reef aquarium. Its robust structure and eye-catching appearance make it a favourite among both novice and experienced aquarists.

This coral grows as a massive, hemispherical, or encrusting colony, with individual polyps often reaching impressive sizes. The thick, fleshy mantle of this Rainbow Lobophyllia displays a stunning gradient of colours, transitioning through various shades that blend seamlessly to create a true rainbow effect across its surface. The valleys between the corallites are deep, giving the coral a distinctly lumpy or brain-like texture. This piece measures approximately 5cm.

Lobophyllia thrives under moderate lighting conditions, with a PAR range of 80-150 being ideal. It appreciates moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling on its tissues without causing them to retract excessively. Placement on the sand bed or a lower rock work position is generally best. While photosynthetic, supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or copepods a few times a week will promote robust growth and vibrant colouration. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1280-1350 ppm. Like most LPS corals, Lobophyllia can be aggressive, extending sweeper tentacles at night, so ensure adequate spacing from other corals. Acclimation should be gradual, particularly to new lighting regimens.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
