Description
Acanthastrea lordhowensis, commonly known as the Acan Lord, is one of the most popular species in the LPS coral world. Hobbyists appreciate this coral for its hardiness and the incredible range of colours it displays. This particular variety shows off a deep red colouration that adds significant warmth and depth to a reef aquarium display.
Over time, an Acan Lord will grow into an encrusting or submassive colony with large, distinct circular polyps. Each polyp has a fleshy, inflated appearance, and they can show dramatic feeding responses, extending short tentacles, usually after lights-out or when food is added to the water. The surface of this specimen is a rich red, a solid and consistent colour across the colony that holds well under typical aquarium lighting.
For best results, place your Acan Lord on the sandbed or low on the rockwork, out of intense, direct light. A PAR range of 75-150 is a good starting point. They prefer low to moderate water flow, enough to keep detritus from settling but not so strong that the polyps remain retracted. Like other LPS corals, they benefit from stable water parameters: calcium between 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300-1400. While photosynthetic, they are active feeders and will appreciate weekly offerings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets. Although not overly aggressive, they can extend short sweeper tentacles, so it's wise to leave a few centimetres between them and their neighbours.
An Acan Lord is a great addition to a stable mixed reef tank. Its placement requirements make it ideal for filling in lower-light areas of the aquascape that might not suit other corals. Their steady, encrusting growth makes them manageable long-term, as they won't quickly overgrow their space. They are a reliable coral for hobbyists who have mastered basic water chemistry and are looking to expand their LPS collection.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
