Description
Description
Blastomussa wellsi is a classic Large Polyp Stony coral that has been a part of the reef aquarium hobby for decades. This particular morph shows a deep red colouration, making it a popular choice for adding a spot of rich colour to a reef. Its large, fleshy polyps are distinct from many other LPS corals, and it has a reputation for being a hardy and manageable species.
During the day, a healthy Blasto will inflate its polyps into soft, pillow-like discs. The tissue has a satisfyingly fleshy appearance, often in a solid red that can appear almost velvety under aquarium lighting. New heads typically bud off from the base of existing polyps, allowing the colony to gradually expand across the rockwork in a pleasing, mounding shape.
In terms of care, Blastomussa corals are fairly straightforward. They prefer low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75-150 PAR range, so they are best placed on the sand bed or in a lower, shaded part of the rockwork. Water flow should be gentle and indirect, just enough to prevent detritus from settling on their polyps. While photosynthetic, they respond well to spot feeding once or twice a week with small meaty foods. As with any LPS, keeping calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels stable is key to its long-term health. Give it a few inches of space from its neighbours to be safe.
The peaceful nature of a Blasto makes it a great citizen in a mixed reef. It won’t send out long sweeper tentacles to bother its neighbours, which allows for more flexible placement in LPS-dominant or community reef systems. Its growth rate is steady but not aggressive, meaning it won’t take over a tank, and makes for a rewarding coral to watch develop over time.

Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
