Description

Red Goniopora, often referred to as the flowerpot coral, holds a classic place in the marine aquarium hobby. Known for its distinct floral appearance, this large polyp stony coral forms dense colonies of extended polyps that sway naturally with the water movement. The striking red colouration makes it a standout piece in any reef display, bringing both intense colour and dynamic motion to the aquascape. This piece measures approximately 8cm across when open.

The growth form consists of a solid skeletal base from which elongated polyp stalks extend, each terminating in a delicate crown of twenty-four tentacles. During the day, the polyps expand fully to catch light and suspended particles, displaying a rich, uniform red tone across the stems and crowns. At night or when disturbed, the polyps retract into the hard calyxes below, revealing the underlying skeleton before opening back out once conditions settle.

Care requires stable reef parameters and a mindful hand with placement. Position this coral in the lower to middle zones of the aquarium where it receives moderate, indirect lighting between 100 and 150 PAR. Moderate, turbulent water flow is ideal to keep the polyps dancing without blasting them violently against their stony base. Maintain calcium between 420 and 440 ppm, alkalinity at 8 to 9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300 to 1350 ppm. Goniopora benefit greatly from targeted feeding of fine zooplankton, powdered coral foods, or phytoplankton once or twice a week. Give it a few inches of clearance from neighbouring corals, as extended polyps can suffer or cause irritation if brushed constantly. Acclimate slowly via drip acclimation and introduce it to low light before moving it to its final position.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
