Alveopora, often called Flowerpot Coral, is a beautiful and somewhat unique large polyp stony coral in the reef aquarium hobby. Its delicate appearance, with long, flowing polyps, makes it a captivating addition, offering gentle movement and vibrant colour. This piece measures approximately Frag. It is a rewarding coral for those who appreciate its distinctive character. It is an LPS coral that is often kept successfully by hobbyists of varying experience levels.

The polyps of Alveopora are typically long and elegant, swaying gently in the current. Each polyp ends in twelve small tentacles, giving it a distinctive floral appearance. This particular specimen displays striking red polyps with green oral discs, creating a lovely contrast that stands out in a mixed reef. When fully extended, the coral creates a lush, soft-looking texture on its skeletal base.

Alveopora thrives under moderate lighting, with PAR values between 75-150 being ideal. It prefers moderate, indirect water flow to encourage polyp extension and prevent detritus accumulation without causing irritation. Placement on the sand bed or lower to mid-level rockwork is generally suitable. While primarily photosynthetic, supplemental feeding of phytoplankton or very fine zooplankton once or twice a week can promote better growth and colouration. Consistent water parameters are important: Calcium 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. It is a peaceful coral but ensure adequate space is provided for its full polyp extension.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
