Description

Fungia plate corals are a fascinating and unique addition to any reef aquarium. Unlike most stony corals that form sessile colonies, these are solitary, free-living animals capable of moving around the tank and even recovering from significant damage. Their unique biology and engaging feeding response make them a favorite among knowledgeable reef keepers.

This species presents as a single, large, circular or oblong polyp with a calcified skeleton. Radiating skeletal plates, known as septa, give it a distinctive ribbed appearance visible through its fleshy tissue. While coloration can vary, specimens often display vibrant combinations of green, red, pink, and sometimes purple, with a central mouth that can expand dramatically during feeding.

For best results, place your Fungia plate coral on the sandbed or a flat, low-lying rock. They require low to moderate lighting (75-150 PAR) and prefer gentle, indirect water flow to prevent tissue damage. Active feeding 1-2 times per week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or chopped seafood is recommended for robust health. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity between 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Be sure to provide at least 4-6 inches of space around the coral, as it can extend sweeper tentacles at night. Acclimate slowly to your tank's lighting and water conditions.

The Fungia plate coral offers reef hobbyists an opportunity to keep a truly interesting LPS coral. Its unusual mobility and active personality provide a different kind of interaction than static coral colonies, making it a worthwhile and engaging centerpiece for the lower areas of a reef tank.

Please note: This is not a WYSIWYG item. You will receive a coral frag of the same species and similar coloration/quality to what is photographed, but the exact specimen may vary. Each piece is unique and hand-selected for health and color.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
