Description
Description
Discosoma mushrooms are a classic and popular choice for reef aquarium hobbyists of all levels. Valued for their hardiness and wide range of colors, these soft corals offer an easy way to add a splash of color and interesting texture to any marine tank. Their simple care requirements and peaceful nature make them an ideal starting point for new hobbyists, while their unique variations are sought after by experienced collectors.
This variety of Discosoma displays a rich red coloration. The coral is a single, disc-shaped polyp with a fleshy, smooth-to-bumpy texture. As it matures and thrives, it will slowly reproduce by splitting, gradually forming a small, colorful garden on the rockwork it occupies. The patterns and intensity of color can vary based on tank conditions, but they consistently provide a vibrant point of interest.
Care for Discosoma mushrooms is straightforward. They prefer low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 50-150 PAR range, making them perfect for placement on the sandbed or in the lower third of the rockwork. Water flow should be low and indirect to prevent the mushroom from detaching. While largely photosynthetic, they benefit from dissolved organics and occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 380-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. They are generally peaceful but should be given a few inches of space from other corals to avoid overgrowth. Always drip acclimate slowly and start them in a low-light area.
For aquarists looking to add resilient and attractive corals, the Discosoma mushroom is an excellent addition. It requires minimal specialized care while rewarding the hobbyist with steady growth and deep, satisfying color, making it a truly worthwhile inhabitant for a peaceful reef environment.
Please note: This is not a WYSIWYG item. You will receive a coral frag of the same species and similar coloration/quality to what is photographed, but the exact specimen may vary. Each piece is unique and hand-selected for health and color.
Our Quarantine Procedures
Our Quarantine Procedures
We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.
As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.
Fish
All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.
Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.
During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.
Coral
Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.
Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.
If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed
If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
Payment & Security
We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
