Description

Lobophyllia is a classic large polyp stony coral known for its large, fleshy polyps. In the reef aquarium hobby, it's valued for its bold structure and deep colouration. This specimen shows a solid red colour that makes this genus a popular choice for adding a patch of rich colour to the lower areas of a reef.

Often called a Lobo, this coral grows in a mounding colony with individual, circular to meandroid corallites. The polyps are very fleshy and can inflate substantially with water, giving the colony a full, pillowy appearance. At night, it may extend short sweeper tentacles, so it's best to give it some space from its neighbours. The tissue of this particular colony is a consistent, deep red.

For best results, place your Red Lobophyllia on the sandbed or on lower rockwork where it receives less intense illumination. It prefers low to moderate light, somewhere in the 75-150 PAR range, and should be acclimated to new lighting conditions slowly. Water flow should also be gentle to moderate, just enough to keep the surface clean without buffeting the polyps directly. While photosynthetic, Lobos benefit from occasional spot feeding with meaty foods like mysis or chopped prawn. Maintain stable water parameters, with calcium around 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.

In a mature system, a Red Lobophyllia is a hardy and rewarding coral that adds a block of intense, solid colour. The coral you see in the photo is the exact one you will receive.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
