Description

The Red Zoanthid is a popular and striking soft coral, featuring vibrant red polyps with contrasting rings of blue or purple. Each polyp is a small, individual organism that forms a colony, creating a colorful mat across your live rock. Their open-mouthed appearance and intense coloration make them a focal point in any reef aquarium, adding dynamic beauty and visual interest. This particular morph displays a deep crimson center surrounded by a bright orange skirt, truly standing out. Some polyps may exhibit a slight blueish hue towards the center. Zoanthids are known for their hardiness and ability to thrive in a range of conditions, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Their relatively small size allows them to be placed in various locations within the tank, contributing to a diverse aquascape. They are a captivating choice for adding a splash of intense color to your reef. Acclimation should be done gradually using a drip acclimation method over 30-60 minutes to minimize stress and allow the coral to adjust to your tank's parameters. Avoid direct exposure to air during transfer. This is a WYSIWYG frag of 5 polyps. Photos were taken under a combination of Orphek OR3 Blue Plus and Ecotech Radion G5 Blue. The Red Zoanthid is a truly eye-catching addition that will brighten any reef display. Their ease of care and dazzling appearance make them a perennial favorite among coral enthusiasts. With proper attention, this coral will flourish and multiply, enhancing the natural beauty of your underwater world for years to come. This coral is a fantastic choice for those looking to introduce a splash of dramatic color without demanding excessive care. It is a rewarding coral that will quickly become a highlight in your tank. Red Zoanthids appreciate moderate PAR levels, typically ranging from 75 to 150. While they can tolerate lower light, too little PAR may lead to duller coloration and slower growth, whereas excessive light can cause them to recede or bleach. Medium to low flow is ideal, providing enough water movement to keep detritus from settling on the polyps without being so strong that it prevents them from fully extending. Place them on the middle to lower regions of your rockwork or directly on the sandbed. They are not typically aggressive, but like all corals, ensure adequate space to prevent overgrowth or shading of neighboring corals. This coral does not require direct feeding, as it primarily relies on photosynthesis from its symbiotic zooxanthellae. However, supplemental feeding with fine particulate foods like powdered coral foods or phytoplankton once or twice a week can promote faster growth and enhanced coloration. Maintain stable water parameters: Temperature 74-78ยฐF, Salinity 1.024-1.026, Alkalinity 8-12 dKH, Calcium 400-450 ppm, Magnesium 1300-1450 ppm, and Nitrates <10 ppm. Clean water and regular water changes are crucial for their long-term health. While generally hardy, ensure proper water quality and stable parameters to help them thrive and display their best colors. Avoid letting detritus accumulate on the polyps, as this can lead to irritation and potential decline. Consistent monitoring of your tank environment will ensure these beautiful polyps remain vibrant and continue to grow, forming an impressive colony over time. The Red Zoanthid is known to be robust and adaptable, making it an excellent choice for a variety of reef tank setups. It is a perfect way to introduce a burst of color and movement to your aquarium, and its growth will provide continuous visual enjoyment. These corals are generally quite peaceful but can release palytoxin when stressed or damaged, so handle them with caution and always wear gloves. Maintaining stable parameters is key to preventing stress and ensuring they thrive. Regular monitoring of water quality will keep your colony healthy and vibrant, allowing these stunning zoanthids to be a long-lasting and rewarding addition to your reef. Always rinse hands and equipment thoroughly after handling to prevent any accidental irritation. They are a relatively low-maintenance coral that offers significant visual impact for their small size and easy care. With the right conditions, you will enjoy their striking appearance as they spread and add to the biodiversity of your tank. Ensure they have appropriate space to colonize, as they will spread across available rockwork over time. This makes them an excellent candidate for filling in empty spaces with a captivating display of color.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
