Reverse Frogspawn Coral

Reverse Frogspawn Coral, a variant of the popular Euphyllia divisa, is a striking large polyp stony coral known for its unique colour patterning. It is a sought-after addition to many reef aquariums, offering dynamic movement and vibrant colouration. Unlike the standard Frogspawn, this reverse variant typically presents with lighter, often contrasting, polyp tips and a darker base colour, creating a captivating visual effect. Its graceful, swaying polyps make it a focal point in a well-maintained reef. This piece measures approximately 8cm.

Reverse Frogspawn corals exhibit large, fleshy polyps that extend from a branching or wall-like skeletal structure. Each polyp terminates in several bulbous tips, resembling a cluster of frog eggs, which gives the coral its common name. The polyps extend significantly during the day, creating a lush, flowing appearance, and retract slightly at night or when disturbed. The distinct colouration, with lighter tips over a deeper body colour, provides a beautiful contrast and highlights the intricate structure of the polyps.

For optimal health, Reverse Frogspawn corals thrive in moderate to low lighting, typically between 50-150 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow to prevent tissue damage while ensuring detritus removal and nutrient delivery. Placement on the sandbed or lower to mid-rockwork is generally suitable. While primarily photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional feeding of meaty foods like mysis shrimp or copepods. Stable water parameters are crucial: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm, and Salinity 1.025. Ensure adequate spacing from other corals, as Euphyllia can extend potent sweeper tentacles, especially at night. Acclimation should be gradual, particularly regarding lighting.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
