Reverse Frogspawn Coral

The Reverse Frogspawn Coral, Euphyllia divisa, is a striking large polyp stony coral that offers a unique colour variation of the classic frogspawn. These corals are a staple in many reef aquariums, appreciated for their elegant movement and relatively straightforward care requirements, making them suitable for a wide range of reef keepers. This piece measures approximately 8cm.

Reverse Frogspawn corals display long, flowing polyps that typically branch at the tips, resembling frog eggs, hence their common name. The "reverse" colouration usually refers to a contrast where the tips are a different hue than the body, often with a brighter body and contrasting tips, creating a visually distinct appearance as they sway gently in the current.

For optimal health, Reverse Frogspawn corals thrive under moderate to high PAR lighting (100-250 PAR). They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that allows their polyps to extend fully without being blasted directly, which can cause retraction and stress. Placement in the mid to upper sections of the aquarium is generally ideal, ensuring good light and flow. Regular feeding with zooplankton or other coral foods can promote faster growth, though they primarily rely on zooxanthellae. Stable water parameters are crucial: Calcium 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm. While not overtly aggressive, their sweeper tentacles can extend, so ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
