Description

The Reverse Hammer Coral is a well-known variety of the branching Fimbriaphyllia family, a group that also includes the popular torch and frogspawn corals. The "reverse" in its name refers to its distinct colouration, where the tentacle stalk holds the primary colour, leading up to tips that are typically a lighter, cream or off-white hue. It's a classic large polyp stony coral that brings a unique look to a reef aquarium.

This coral grows in a branching formation, with each branch terminating in a polyp head. The polyps themselves have a fleshy, hammer-shaped tip that sways with the water movement, creating a gentle, flowing appearance. Unlike standard hammer corals where the tips are the most colourful part, the reverse morph draws interest from the colour of the polyp's base. These colours commonly range from green to brown tones.

Like other Fimbriaphyllia, the Reverse Hammer thrives in a mature reef environment with stable parameters. It prefers low to moderate water flow, just enough to see a gentle swaying of its polyps. Strong, direct flow can prevent full extension. Moderate lighting is ideal, with a PAR range of 100-200 being a safe target. Placement in the middle to lower regions of the tank is usually best. Although photosynthetic, it will take occasional feedings of small meaty foods like mysis or enriched brine shrimp.

Keep in mind that this is not a peaceful coral. It can produce long sweeper tentacles at night that will sting and harm any corals within reach. Be sure to provide at least six inches of space between it and its neighbours to avoid any territorial disputes. Stable alkalinity (8-9 dKH), calcium (420-440 ppm), and magnesium (1300-1400) levels are important for its long-term health and skeletal growth.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
