Reverse Hammer Coral

Reverse Hammer Corals, Euphyllia fimbriata or glabrescens, are a cornerstone species for many reef keepers. These LPS corals are cherished for their flowing polyps and striking appearance, making them a popular choice for both seasoned aquarists and those new to the hobby. This particular piece measures approximately 8cm. They are relatively hardy, rewarding thoughtful care with vigorous growth and exceptional visual interest.

Reverse Hammer Corals display a unique polyp structure where the tips of the tentacles are coloured differently from the base, creating a beautiful contrast. The polyps extend from a skeletal base and sway gracefully with moderate water movement, adding dynamic motion to the aquarium. When happy, they inflate significantly, showcasing their full, lush form.

For optimal health, Reverse Hammer Corals thrive under moderate lighting, typically 75-150 PAR. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow to prevent tissue damage while still encouraging polyp extension and waste removal. Place them on the sandbed or lower to mid-level rockwork, ensuring they have ample space, as their sweepers can extend and sting neighbouring corals. Regular feeding of zooplankton or small meaty foods a few times a week can enhance growth and coloration. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity 8-10 dKH, Magnesium 1300-1400 ppm, and Salinity 1.025. Acclimate new specimens slowly using a drip method to reduce stress.

These corals are excellent candidates for a mixed reef, providing a significant visual impact without being overly demanding. Their distinctive form and movement can serve as a focal point or complement other corals beautifully, contributing to a vibrant and healthy ecosystem.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
