Description

Symphyllia corals are known for their bold colours, intricate lobed structures, and steady, reliable growth in well-maintained reef systems. They are hardy LPS corals that thrive in stable environments, making them suitable for both intermediate and experienced reef keepers. When provided with balanced lighting, gentle water movement, and consistent water chemistry, Symphyllia develop full, fleshy tissue expansion and vibrant coloration.

Symphyllia prefer low to moderate lighting, which helps preserve their depth of colour and prevents excessive tissue recession caused by intense light exposure. Place them on the sand bed or lower rockwork, allowing enough space for their fleshy lobes to expand without touching neighbouring corals. Gentle, indirect flow is ideal, providing enough movement to keep the tissue clean without causing irritation or retraction.

Although largely photosynthetic, Symphyllia benefit noticeably from occasional feeding of small meaty foods, such as mysis, reef pellets, or LPS-specific blends. Feeding once or twice a week supports growth, colour saturation, and polyp inflation.

Maintaining stable parameters is essential. Aim for alkalinity between 8–9 dKH, calcium around 420–450 ppm, magnesium at 1300–1400 ppm, and low, consistent nitrate and phosphate levels. Symphyllia respond poorly to fluctuations, so stable chemistry and responsible nutrient management are key to long-term success.

With proper placement, feeding, and stable water conditions, Symphyllia reward the aquarist with rich colouration, flowing movement, and a striking presence that enhances any LPS or mixed reef display.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
