Description

Favites corals, often called war corals or pineapple corals, are a popular choice for enthusiasts of Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals. They are appreciated for their hardiness and the unique, honeycomb-like structure of their colonies. As an encrusting coral, Favites will grow over your live rock, adding texture and a splash of color to the lower and middle regions of the aquarium. Their steady growth and adaptability make them a satisfying species for many reef keepers.

This coral exhibits the classic Favites appearance, with shared, angular corallite walls that create a distinctive pattern across the colony's surface. The polyps are typically recessed within these walls, revealing fleshy oral discs that often have a color that contrasts with the surrounding skeletal structure. Favites species are found in a wide array of colors, with this particular variety showing appealing teal coloration that can add depth to any reef aquascape.

A dedicated care paragraph is essential for long-term success with Favites. For lighting, provide a low-to-moderate intensity, with a PAR reading between 75 and 150 being a suitable range. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, enough to keep the surface clean of detritus without blasting the polyps directly. Ideal placement is on the rockwork in the lower to middle third of the tank. While photosynthetic, they benefit from target feeding once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets. Maintain stable water parameters: calcium at 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Be aware that Favites are aggressive and can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so leave several inches of space between them and neighboring corals. Acclimate carefully using a drip method and start the coral in a lower-light area before slowly moving it into its final position.

For the reef aquarist looking to add a hardy and interesting encrusting coral, the Favites is an excellent choice. Its visually striking texture and consistent growth provide a rewarding experience for hobbyists who can provide for its spacing requirements.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
