Teal & Gold Hammer Coral

The Hammer Coral, Euphyllia ancora, is a long-standing favourite in the reef aquarium hobby, known for its elegant movement and striking appearance. This gold variety adds a beautiful, shimmering focal point to any reef. It thrives in established tanks, offering both visual appeal and a fascinating display of polyp extension. This piece measures approximately 9cm. branching Hammer Coral, with each polyp head extending on its own stalk. The polyps are tubular and elongated, with rounded, often lobed tips that resemble small hammers or anchors, hence its common name. The polyps of this specimen display a rich gold colouration, sometimes with hints of teal in the base tissue. They will expand significantly with good water quality and consistent lighting, swaying gracefully in the current. Hammer Corals benefit from moderate to high PAR lighting, typically between 150-250 PAR, to maintain their vibrant gold colouration and promote good health. They prefer moderate, indirect water flow that allows the polyps to sway gently without being constantly battered. Ideal placement is on a rock structure in the mid to upper levels of the aquarium, ensuring ample space. Regular feeding of appropriately sized zooplankton or finely minced seafood is beneficial, though not strictly required if light is sufficient. Stable water parameters are crucial: Calcium 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium 1250-1350 ppm. While not overly aggressive, they possess sweeping tentacles that can sting neighbouring corals, so maintain adequate spacing. Acclimation should be gradual, especially to new lighting.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
