Description

Chalice corals are a broad category of plating LPS, typically from genera like Echinophyllia or Mycedium. They are a long-standing favourite in the hobby for their unique growth forms and intense colouration. This particular specimen exhibits the classic teal and red combination that makes these corals so popular in a mixed reef.

In a home aquarium, this chalice will encrust over the rockwork and eventually form a thin, spreading plate. The main body of the coral is a deep teal, while the individual polyps, or "eyes," are a contrasting bright red. The texture is usually bumpy around the corallites, adding to its distinctive look.

Chalice corals do best under low to medium light conditions, somewhere in the 100-200 PAR range. When placing them, choose a spot in the lower to middle part of the tank with low to moderate, indirect water flow. Strong, direct flow can cause tissue to recede. While photosynthetic, they will benefit from occasional target feeding with mysis or other small meaty foods, which can be offered at night when their feeder tentacles are often extended.

It is important to give a chalice coral plenty of space. They possess long and powerful sweeper tentacles that will damage or kill other corals within reach. A buffer of at least 10cm from its nearest neighbour is a good starting point. Stable water parameters are key to its success: aim for calcium at 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium between 1300-1400 ppm.

This is a WYSIWYG item, so you'll receive the exact specimen pictured.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
