Description

Lobophyllia corals are a long-standing favourite in the reef aquarium hobby. As a classic large polyp stony coral, Lobophyllia hemprichii offers a unique texture with its large, fleshy polyps. This specimen presents with a distinct green oral disc, a feature that stands out nicely under actinic lighting. It's a hardy and rewarding coral for beginner and expert reef keepers alike.

In a home reef, Lobophyllia form a low, mounding colony of individual round polyps. The tissue is soft and fleshy, inflating substantially during the day and retracting slightly at night. When feeding tentacles are extended, they are typically short and seen around the mouth in the centre of each polyp. The contrast between the green central disc and the surrounding tissue colour is what gives this morph its character.

For best results, these corals prefer low to moderate lighting, somewhere in the 75 to 150 PAR range. Place them on the sandbed or a low rock ledge, well away from high-flow areas. Too much water movement can prevent the polyps from fully expanding. They are photosynthetic but will grow faster with supplemental feeding. Target feeding each polyp once or twice a week with meaty foods like mysis shrimp will be readily accepted. Maintain stable water parameters, including calcium between 420-440 ppm, alkalinity at 8-9 dKH, and magnesium around 1300-1400. While not overly aggressive, they can produce short sweeper tentacles, so it's wise to provide a few inches of space between them and their neighbours.

Due to their placement needs and peaceful nature, Lobophyllia are a great choice for the lower landscape of a mixed reef. Their slow, predictable growth makes them a very manageable coral for the long term, and they don't pose a threat to more delicate tankmates. They bring colour and a soft, pillowy texture to areas where higher-light SPS corals can't be kept.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
