Description

Goniastrea corals are a popular type of large polyp stony (LPS) coral often referred to as a type of "brain coral" due to their maze-like surface patterns. They are appreciated in the reef aquarium hobby for their hardiness and the interesting texture they bring to a reef structure. Their steady growth and engaging appearance make them a centerpiece in many tanks.

This species typically exhibits a massive or encrusting growth form, gradually covering the rockwork it is placed on. The surface is a landscape of individual corallites that share common walls, creating the distinctive honeycomb or brain-like pattern. As the name suggests, Toxic Green Goniastrea is known for its bright, near-fluorescent green coloration that can add a vibrant splash of color to any reef aquarium.

A dedicated care paragraph is essential for long-term success with Goniastrea. For lighting, a moderate PAR range of 75-150 is recommended; they do not require intensely bright light. Water flow should be moderate and indirect, as direct, strong flow can inhibit polyp extension and feeding. Ideal placement is on the sandbed or on lower to middle rockwork. While photosynthetic, they benefit from occasional target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialized LPS pellets. Maintain stable water parameters with calcium between 400-450 ppm, alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and magnesium from 1250-1350 ppm. Goniastrea can be semi-aggressive and may extend sweeper tentacles at night, so provide a few inches of space between them and neighboring corals. Slow drip acclimation is the best practice for introducing them to your aquarium.

Goniastrea is a rewarding coral to keep. Its classic brain coral appearance combined with a striking green hue makes it a durable and attractive addition for both new and experienced reef keepers looking to cultivate a diverse and colorful LPS collection.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

Payment & Security

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.

Credit card payments are processed securely using the highest possible security protocols.
