Description

Favia corals are a widely appreciated group of Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals, known for their hardiness and engaging appearance. Their typical encrusting or mounding growth habit allows them to cover rockwork, adding texture and color to the reef aquarium. They are a great choice for hobbyists looking to add a classic stony coral that is both resilient and visually interesting.

This species characteristically forms colonies with closely-set, round corallites. The fleshy tissue is often a vibrant green, which can cover both the polyp mouths and the surrounding coenosteum. Over time, a Favia fragment will encrust the rock or plug it is on, slowly expanding its footprint and following the contours of the aquascape. The colony's surface has a bumpy, textured appearance that makes a nice contrast to other coral shapes.

For best results, Favia corals should be kept in a stable reef environment. They prefer moderate lighting, with a PAR range between 75 and 150 being a good target. Water flow should also be moderate and indirect; strong, direct flow can damage the coral's fleshy tissue. Placement is best in the lower to middle sections of the tank on the rockwork. Favia are active feeders and will benefit from target feeding small meaty foods like mysis or LPS pellets once or twice a week. Maintain standard water parameters with Calcium at 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-12 dKH, and Magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Be aware that Favia are aggressive and can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so provide at least a few inches of space between them and any neighboring corals. Slow drip acclimation is recommended upon arrival.

The Favia coral is a rewarding species that brings a classic look to any reef tank. Its steady growth and bright coloration make it a satisfying coral to keep, and its relative hardiness makes it accessible to a wide range of hobbyists. It is a worthwhile addition for anyone wanting to enjoy a popular and time-tested LPS coral.

Our Quarantine Procedures

We take livestock seriously. That's why we don't sell anything we wouldn't be comfortable putting in our own tank.

As we are direct from source, we import and sell direct to the public. This means you can buy with confidence knowing EMA prides itself on excellent handling and conditioning protocols.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.

We offer a number of different payment methods, including Credit Card, Afterpay, Q Card, Pay at Collection, Bank Transfer and POLi.
