Toxic Green Goniastrea

Goniastrea are a robust and visually striking LPS coral, valued by reef keepers for their vibrant colours and interesting growth patterns. They are a familiar and enduring presence in many mixed reef aquariums, offering a solid foundation for any collection. This particular specimen displays a captivating toxic green hue throughout its colony. It measures approximately 7cm.

Goniastrea typically form massive, encrusting, or submassive colonies with polygonal corallites. The septa are usually well-developed and often have fine teeth along their margins. This toxic green variety will show its best colouration under appropriate lighting, providing a rich, deep green that can stand out in a well-lit reef.

Caring for Goniastrea is generally straightforward, making them suitable for a range of hobbyists. They prefer moderate lighting, ideally around 100-150 PAR, and moderate, indirect water flow to keep detritus from settling on the colony. Placement on the sand bed or a lower-to-mid rockwork position is usually ideal. While not strictly necessary, target feeding with a quality LPS-specific food a few times a week can enhance growth and vitality. Maintain stable water parameters: Calcium at 400-440 ppm, Alkalinity at 8-10 dKH, and Magnesium at 1250-1350 ppm. Ensure adequate spacing from aggressive corals, as Goniastrea can extend sweeper tentacles at night. Acclimation should be gradual, especially when introducing to new lighting conditions.

Fish

All our fish held in a quarantine system for a minimum of 3 weeks. During this time, regular water changes are performed, and twice daily (or sometimes more) feedings are performed.

Copper is dosed and checked twice a day for ich and velvet.

During this treatment fish are given formalin baths for brooklynella and a minimum of 3 praziquantel doses is performed for flukes.

Coral

Our coral is quarantined for a minimum of 3 weeks, just like fish. During this time, regular water changes are performed, water testing done, and once a month a Fauna Marin ICP Total is performed.

Corals are inspected for pests/general health and are provided with a pest dip once a week for at least 3 weeks.

If we see signs of pests, the quarantine period is extended and/or additional dips are performed

If coral is bleached/unhealthy, it will remain in quarantine until healthy enough to sell.
